A BOOK illustrating the importance of valuing the home language and learning from a common experience in the Chinese lifestyle has been published by Doncaster Chinese Women's Group.
Let's Go Yum Char aims to raise awareness and educate non-English speaking parents to strengthen their interest in books, and the importance of learning from an experience outside of home and school.
Written by Lai Lim, who has had over ten years experience in Doncaster as an English as an Additional Language (EAL) teacher and one of the founder members of the Women's Group, the book also shows the relevance of learning from an everyday experience and how this can play a strong role in motivating children's learning.
By using a common experience Chinese parents are able to build their confidence in sharing books with their children.
All proceeds from the sale of the book will be donated to the Doncaster Chinese Women's Group to further the Group's work.
